Yarabin (Sea)

Yarabin (sea) captures the saltwater landscape of Quandamooka Country through the tide lines on our island home. The saltwater breathes through waves and currents. For millennia our saltwater has provided us with food, life and sustenance for our everyday lives. Our saltwater landscape has been drawn with saltwater, sand, fish bones, quampi, eugaries (pipis), ginyinyara (oyster shells), talwalpin (cotton tree) and my mother's woven guylayi (Quandamooka women bag). These precious pieces of sacred Country have been placed onto the fabric on Budjong Djara (Mother Earth), exposed to the sunlight and winds on Minjerribah to create this work.
