My great grandma was born in this beautiful area. Today I walk the beaches and the streets, watching the moon phases, wondering where the sands will shift to next and how high the tide will reach. For more than a decade I've witnessed the land fall into the waves as episodic flow slide events take place. These movements have been occurring over generations with the southerly migration of the Rainbow Channel located between Minjerribah and Mulgumpin (Moreton Island). Humans have been attempting to work against the water by using old car bodies and building rock walls, which has created interruptions and further impacts on the erosion. This series of cyanotypes captures the fallen trees of Pulan: Banksia, She Oaks, Paperbark and Casuarinas lay on their sides along the north beach until the waters take them out to sea. Their leaves and their flowers float away first. Each time a tree comes down, a piece of Country and stories travel with it into the Quandamooka waters. I think about all the stories and memories of our Ancestors which drift deep in these turquoise waters today.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0618/1076/9967/files/6f3d31cf-0030-4782-b497-a730a242eae3-l_f525a887-1671-406c-a349-8f0ce612e853.png?v=1779029841
yarabin-sea
Yarabin (Sea)

Yarabin (sea) captures the saltwater landscape of Quandamooka Country through the tide lines on our island home. The saltwater breathes through waves and currents. For millennia our saltwater has provided us with food, life and sustenance for our everyday lives. Our saltwater landscape has been drawn with saltwater, sand, fish bones, quampi, eugaries (pipis), ginyinyara (oyster shells), talwalpin (cotton tree) and my mother's woven guylayi (Quandamooka women bag). These precious pieces of sacred Country have been placed onto the fabric on Budjong Djara (Mother Earth), exposed to the sunlight and winds on Minjerribah to create this work.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0618/1076/9967/files/323aad44-b7a5-471b-9bf3-927cf6ef47fa-l_fb7591b8-9b6a-48c6-a19f-84d82815e621.png?v=1779029848
